MONTHLY
CONFERENCE: November 17th
|
|

|
The
October conference, "Making of a Novel", by a Miami-Dade Community
College professor, attorney and a prominent writer, turned
out to be even more interesting than expected. Not only
Ms. Raquel Puig Zaldivar gave a very passionate lecture about
a subject very few knew anything at all about, but the intellectual
level of those present contributed to an unusually emotional
discussion in the wake of the theme. Ms. Puig may have
awakened individual literary motivations in several of our
guests. She could not have been more candid about her
feelings and reasons which compel her to write, and the assisting
group could not avoid feeling totally involved with her strong
emotions.
As
expected, this first event already being a success, we shall
launch this type of get-togethers on a monthly schedule.
Not only shall we learn great many things about specific subjects
most of us never even thought about, but this interchange
will allow a greater camaraderie between our members, as well
as introduction of invited guests to the group.
Those
of you who have something to say, who wish to reveal exciting
subjects or certain points of view, may contact our main office
to be placed on a speaker list in chronological order.
Please don't hesitate to offer suggestions, as many

times
the public finds fascinating what to you may seem as a personal
type of every day's work.
We
were unable to chose at this time our next guest speaker for
the next event because of several exciting proposals.
However, the conference is scheduled for Saturday,
November 18th.
Notifications shall be send by e-mail within one week.
Feel
free to attend from 8:00
to 10:00 pm, aboard
the flagship "Malu-Kai". Invited guests are welcome.
Refreshments, cheese board and wine shall be served during
the event. Commodore Horak will serve as moderator at
this meeting.
If
there is one detail we would like to remind our audiences
to observe, please come early enough so as not to disturb
the lecturer and the group once immersed in examining a novel
concept. Judging from the previous experience, our guests
find such occasion truly challenging and an excellent level
of information only whets everybody's appetite.
We
look forward to your assistance. Please kindly R.S.V.P.
to our main office, to help us evaluate how much refreshments
we need for this occasion.

"THE INTRUDER"
Original work by George
J. Horak
#208, 18 x 24",
oil, 1999
|
|
As
announced in the previous issue of the MAINSHEET, The Chamber South organizes
the annual South Miami Art Festival on Saturday,
November 4th and Sunday,
November 5th, at the intersections
of Sunset Drive with Red Road and US-1. This is a juried exhibition
by invitation, and for many years it has been one of the best art shows
in Miami.
Our
Commodore Horak will exhibit his latest works in oil, subject being
- what else - marinas. While the original paintings
carry steep price tags, it is possible to purchase a computer generated,
numbered and signed reproductions, undistinguishable from the original,
at about only 15% of the cost of the original. Perhaps some of
you might enjoy to have a valuable painting in your home, which will not
only transmit the feelings all sailors share, but also remind you permanently
of your favorite activity.
Mr.
Horak's booth is number 64, on Sunset Drive. You may find it interesting
to browse and visit his exhibition and discover the artist you only know
as a sailor, after exploring the rest of the show. |
