NEXT  GRADUATION  PARTY

Another of those traditional celebrations, so special to those who have battled it out on the ocean, who have learned so many things, and those who have disciplined themselves to withstand the requirements of those parameters Miami Sailing Club imposes on all levels of instruction.  The graduation parties are the culmination of personal effort and dedication to one of the most natural and historical activities of our civilization.  Seafaring has always been the prime lure of men and women.  To learn how to survive the natural forces. That is why our students enjoy so much to share those moments of recognition with their friends and their loved ones, and that is why these ceremonies are many times so emotional.
Our next event is scheduled for Friday, November 10th, aboard the "Malu-Kai", from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.  While a part of the students has not finished the final exams at the moment this issue goes in print, it is expected they all will successfully pass the final show of competency.
Members, students and invited guests are welcome to assist, and they will have the privilege to join in this celebration and the moment of the diploma awards to the new certified Skippers.  The coveted certifications shall go this time to courses CSC#106, CSC#109, CSC#110, A-1#050, other higher level awards, and students who were absent at the past ceremonies.  This celebration is, as always, an ideal opportunity to meet other members, and above all to make new friends.  As far as we can remember this occasion never ended at the hour indicated, and probably it never will.  As usual, there is no charge.  Invited guests, family members, friends are welcome.
Please everybody (including the guests) bring any one of the following goodies, per each assisting person, to ensure a plentiful supply of foods and beverages:
Covered dish  Bottle of wine
Six-pack of beer  Home-made specialty
Desert   Six-pack of soda

And anything else you can think of …..

RAQUEL  PUIG  ZALDIVAR

The first conference of the Miami Sailing Club was a true success.  Puig Zaldivar not only managed to hold the undivided attention of the assisting group of members and invited guests for over an hour of her masterful conference titled "Making of a Novel", but also to stir some deep and wonderful emotions based on personal historical events.  She faithfully follows the golden rule of all writers:  write about what you know.  No doubt Ms. Puig was able to transmit to all the present her deep emotional interest in familiar and social aspects of a Cuban family, originally emigrated from Spain at the beginning of 1900.
Using for demonstration her novel "WOMEN DON'T NEED TO WRITE", published by the University of Houston, Ms. Puig Zaldivar illustrated the typical scenes generated by using composite personalities, striving for decent living conditions in otherwise difficult situations for survival.  She depicts her own relationship with her "abuelitas" and the long process of arriving to an unsurpassed appreciation and admiration of people she did not initially understand.  Perhaps the title may mislead the reader this is about feminist movement and political statements of Castro's Cuba, but this is a complete misconception.  Ms. Puig could not be farther from both of those subjects.  Women Don't Need to Write is about love, about family and respect.  About the hardships of immigration and political pressures which affect an individual dedicated to raise a family and provide decent conditions for the children in the new world.
In spite of the fact Ms. Puig Zaldivar likes to move on the stage, she did not have any difficulty sitting with her audience inside a yacht, achieving to charm everybody present.
